Choosing the right Women's Perfume

By

Sometime this year Jennifer Lopez had a press conference for the launching of her newest perfume line. When asked about the perfume she is wearing, she did not divulge its name to stand out from other people’s scent. Scents are important and part of our lives. Not all women have the same taste on perfumes. Others like it cool and fresh while others love the sultry scents.  So how do you pick the best women’s perfume?

The History of Perfume

Perfumes are volatile liquids with a mixture of fragrance, oil, water, and compounds used to give the human body, animals, and living spaces a pleasant smell. It comes from the Latin word per fumus, which means ‘through smoke’, in which the French later on called it parfum.  The first perfumes were incense, which were discovered by the Mesopotamians thousands of years ago. Incense and perfumes play an important role not only of the living but also of the dead. Egyptians were renowned of their preservation techniques and perfumes were part of their preservation resources. Ancient cultures also used perfumes to preserve their dead using resins and fragrant woods that soaked in water and oil for a long time.

Modern Day Perfume

Fast forward to today’s generation, perfumes of different kinds and mixtures are available in the market and women’s perfumes have the widest range. Given the different characteristics of women, perfumes too have different strengths and aroma. Perfumes are defined as floral, oriental, fresh, woody, and fougere. Floral perfumes come from flowers while woody scents come from distinct barks of trees. Data shows that the most salable of all women’s perfume types is the floral since it emits femininity, tranquility, and simplicity. On the other hand other women’s perfume contents include flowers like ylang ylang, which is an aphrodisiac. Choosing meticulously for women’s perfume is not just checking its aroma but also its contents, which may or may not bring positive aura to the user. Strong concentrations of perfumes can be bought in small quantities and are really expensive since the scent lasts longer and the strength is very high. On the other hand, weaker perfume scents like eau de perfume, eau de cologne, and eau de toilette, have lower concentrations and can be bought in larger quantities for a relatively lower price.

Best Selling Perfumes

Statistics show that the majority of women who want to exude strength but still have a touch of feminism are into designer perfumes, which means expensive and labeled ones. Leading the list in the best selling perfumes is Chanel, dubbed as a classic perfume. Three of its perfume lines which are patronized the most are Chanel no. 5, Coco Chanel, and the latest dubbed as Chance. The scent is neither too fruity nor too floral. Next are Lacoste’s Touch of Pink and Dior’s J’Adore. Another best selling perfume for women is Estee Lauder’s line of perfumes. It has a wide array of choices from everyday perfumes to special occasion’s perfumes. It has been loved by women since its launch in the late 1980’s. Known for its impressive creation of bridal gowns, Vera Wang’s perfume line also tops the most celebrated perfumes for brides.

Perfumes Out in 2010

Like any other items, perfume designers and creators strive to release refreshing and new perfume scents. Here is a list of few perfumes that have launched this year 2010. Tops on the list include Kylie Minogue’s Pink Sparkle, Guess Seductive by Guess, Play by Givenchy, and Fancy Nights by Jessica Simpson. It used to be that celebrities would appear on perfume ads as endorsers only. Today celebrities are making their own distinctive perfumes. Ist was Elizabeth Taylor who made the first celebrity perfume. The most reputable perfume line from a celebrity is J Lo’s. Almost all of her launched perfume lines are by far the most remarkable as far as selling records when compared to other celebrities. Maybe because J Lo has already been making trends and remarkable records in the entertainment world, women are somewhat enticed to buy the product. Her image therefore, as one of the A-listers in Hollywood, made her perfumes bestsellers. In line with that, one of the reasons that people buy a certain perfume is not only for its scent but also for its packaging. Girls love pink and womanly perfume bottles. While perfumes with simple packaging are also salable, embellished ones have also made records in sales. In fact, some women tend to reuse their old perfume bottles.

The last thing that you would want to do now is shop.  Shopping for perfumes can be for you, your relative, a friend, or for that special someone.  Of course, shopping for designer perfumes need not be expensive. You can find perfumes on sale in your favorite department store. You may also shop online. Perfume.com has a wide variety of luxury brands for sale like Burberry, DKNY, Marc Jacobs, and a lot more with 15-20% off from the original price. When shopping for perfumes it is advisable to choose from 2-3 scents so as not to confuse your sense of smell. Also, it is best that you wear soft-scented perfume or nothing at all when shopping so as to grasp every distinct scent of your chosen perfumes.
